Prescot Festival Clocks up 15 Memorable Years

(Press release) A Merseyside arts festival is celebrating its fifteenth year this June.

At a time when similar festivals often run into trouble after two or three years, the Prescot Festival of Music & the Arts has continually defied the odds and has been going from strength to strength since 2005.

The 2019 line-up includes Dr Jazz & the Cheshire Cats, Liverpool Cathedral Choir and the Band & Drums of the Cheshire Constabulary, among other musicians and artists.

‘We began with a single weekend, programming a handful of concerts back-to-back,’ said founder and artistic director Dr Robert Howard.

‘By the following year we were adding fringe events and, having discovered an appetite for top-tier arts and music in the area, we soon extended to 10 days.’

For Rob, who heads up the orchestral music at St Edward’s College in Liverpool, it’s all about making music accessible and affordable for everyone.

‘At the heart of the Prescot Festival is the great British tradition of community music-making,’ he said. ‘From our Come-and-Sing choir to the Proms-style finale, we just want people to enjoy both listening and taking part.’

A new addition to the programme will see primary school children from across the borough gather in Prescot’s historic parish church for an inaugural choir festival, organised by St Mary & St Paul’s School. Other gifted students of all ages are to be celebrated at the Young Instrumentalists of Prescot showcase, organised by Evelyn Community Primary School and established in memory of the much-missed businessman and priest the Reverend David Rose.

The 15th Annual Prescot Festival of Music & the Arts takes place from Friday 21 to Sunday 30 June in the historic Lancashire town of Prescot, Merseyside.
