The world’s most famous love story is coming to Prescot on 15 June.

Imaginarium Theatre, the Prescot-based company known until recently as MATE Productions, is staging William Shakespeare’s tale of romance, revenge and rivalry in the woodlands of the town’s parish church.

Set in Verona, Italy, in the age of the hot air balloon, Romeo & Juliet tells of the forbidden love of two teenagers, kept apart and destined for tragedy because of their feuding families. As well as the immortal words of Shakespeare’s original play, this retelling of the tale features spectacular fire dancing and strikingly choreographed fight scenes.

A team of top specialists in every aspect of theatre – including designers, musicians and stunt coordinators – have worked with a mixed cast of professional and non-professional actors to to bring this thrilling community production to life.

Romeo & Juliet opens on Saturday 15 June, with performances at 2pm and 7pm in Prescot’s ‘Woodland Theatre’ (Prescot Parish Church, L34 1LA).

It then tours the region throughout June, July and August, with performances at parks across Merseyside and Cheshire, returning to Prescot for 2pm and 7pm performances on Saturday 13 July.
