(Press release) It’s almost time for the Prescot Festival, and already the summer season of culture and entertainment has begun.

On 4 May hundreds of visitors were whisked back in time at the town’s most successful Elizabethan Fayre yet.

School choirs, street entertainers, birds of prey and animals of every variety took part in the celebration of Prescot’s history and heritage.

On 15 June Imaginarium Theatre, formerly known as MATE Productions, open Romeo & Juliet in the ‘Woodland Theatre,’ in the grounds of Prescot’s 17th-century parish church.

The setting for this telling of Shakespeare’s tale of romance and revenge will be Verona, Italy, in the age of the hot air balloon.

Then, from Friday 21 to Sunday 30 June, the town sees over a week of concerts and cultural events, as the 15th Annual Prescot Festival of Music & the Arts takes place.

The Band & Drums of the Cheshire Constabulary are the stars of this year’s opening night. The ‘Come & Sing’ Prescot Festival Chorus perform Vivaldi’s Gloria the following night, with the world-renowned Liverpool Cathedral Choir as guest performers in the second half.

Highlights of the week include the first ever Primary Schools’ Choir Festival, swing band Dr Jazz & the Cheshire Cats and Opera Viva ‘on Broadway.’ The 10-day tour de force culminates in a Proms-style finale on 30 June, with Maghull Wind Orchestra and Danielle Louise Thomas, the soprano soloist known as ‘the Voice of Liverpool.’

“The Prescot Festival aims to bring arts music in all its varieties and colours to the very heart of the local community,” said artistic director Dr Robert Howard.

“We’re now in our fifteenth year and still bringing an unrivalled programme of accessible, affordable entertainment to Prescot.”
