Awards for Eaton Street Park & Red Box Project
Two Prescot community groups were recognised for their achievements last weekend.
The Friends of Eaton Street Park were named Community Group of the Year by Prescot Town Council at the annual Community Recognition Awards on Saturday 15 June.
The volunteers have revitalised the park, with regular family-oriented events and weekly ‘Tea in the Park,’ centred around the new pavilion.
Local couple Karl and Clare Duvall were named Citizens of the Year for their role in establishing the Red Box Project, a charitable organisation providing free sanitary wear to girls in Prescot and across the borough of Knowsley.
Their aim is to combat ‘period poverty,’ when girls miss out on education and other opportunities because of poor access to sanitary products such as tampons and pads. They places boxes in primary and secondary schools, where students can help themselves at any time to whatever they need.
The new Mayor of Prescot, Cllr Pat Cook, raised over £200 through a raffle towards her charity fund, and the outgoing Mayor of Prescot, David Rigby, presented the Prescot Festival and Friends of KGV Brown’s Field & Carr Lane Woods with cheques towards their work.
