Imaginarium Theatre’s hit production of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet returns to Prescot before ending its summer tour.

The play opened in the ‘Woodland Theatre,’ in the grounds of Prescot Parish Church, on 15 June, before touring parks across Merseyside and Cheshire to critical acclaim.

Arts journalist Catherine Jones said that Imaginarium, formerly known as MATE, continued its tradition of producing ‘bold versions of classic tales, told with absolute clarity.’

The cast ‘deliver their lines with a directness and coherence that brings every nuance of Shakespeare’s 400-year-old text to life for a modern audience,’ she added.

Elsewhere, reviewer Barbara Sherlock described the production as ‘a glorious take on Shakespeare that is amazing value for money … and takes community theatre to new level.’

The sensational show tells the famous tale of two star-crossed lovers whose violent delights meet violent ends. A live original music score, stunning sets and costumes, spectacularly choreographed dancing, and fight scenes directed by a top TV and film stunt coordinator all complement the brilliant ensemble acting.

Romeo & Juliet will come back on Saturday 13 July for two performances only, at 2pm and 7pm.

Tickets are between £8 and £12 for performances at 2pm and 7pm.

Buy tickets from Jessie & Co, at 11 Leyland Street, Prescot, L34 5QP, or online from www.imaginariumtheatre.co.uk.
