Prescot-based Theatre Group up for Liverpool Culture Award
Prescot-based Imaginarium Theatre is up for People’s Choice in the 2019 Liverpool City Region Culture and Creativity Awards.
Formerly known as MATE Productions, Imaginarium is one of six groups to make the final, from a list of more than 300 across Merseyside.
The community theatre group is known for its lavish outdoor productions, which bring together an array of actors, artists and volunteers, ranging from newbies to seasoned theatrical professionals.
It has collaborated with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and others to create such diverse productions as Romeo & Juliet, Treasure Island and the anti-knife crime schools drama project Violent Ends, devised in memory of murdered Prescot man Adam Ellison.
Based in Cockpit House – once a bank and later Prescot Museum – Imaginarium usually stages its biggest productions in the Woodland Theatre, in the grounds of Prescot Parish Church and Vicarage, before touring outdoor venues across the region.
Before the end of the year they plan to open the Imaginarium Bistro in Market Place, where an arts cafe and restaurant will be complemented by an outdoor piazza for community cultural events.
