Green Waste Collection Ends 10 April in Knowsley

Knowsley Council is currently continuing with the usual waste and recycling collections at the moment, including residual waste (maroon bins), recycling (grey bins) and green waste collections (blue bins).

During the Coronavirus pandemic, there are lots of things you can do to support our teams that are providing your community with this essential service:-

• Clean your bin handles before and after use and remember to wash your hands with hot water and soap after handling your bin
• Ensure your bin lids can close and they are not left open.
• Don’t have a ‘sort out’ and put things you wouldn’t normally put in your bin at this time – this will put further pressure on the collections.
• Do not put out extra bags of waste – we are unable to collect side waste.
  Consider parking on the day of your bin collection – wagons will be unable to empty your bin if they can’t access your road due to parking issues.
• If your bin is missed due to the bin wagon being unable to access your road, you do not need to report a missed bin. We are making a note and will return as soon as possible to empty your bin, so please leave it out and we will return.
• National Government guidance for those who have symptoms of COVID-19 is to dispose of any used tissues or hygiene products (such as disposable cleaning cloths) in a bin bag, tied securely. These bags should be placed into another bin bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your general household waste bin (maroon bin) for collection as usual.
• In order to prioritise the main bin collection services, bulky rubbish collections are temporarily suspended from Friday, 3 April 2020 and green waste collections will be suspended from Friday, 10 April 2020. Residents can home compost their green garden waste – Reducing garden waste by composting at home and to buy a composter visit: www.merseyside.getcomposting.com.

We are unable to process requests for ordering new or replacement green waste (blue) bins at the moment. Maroon and Grey bin requests are being accepted.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Communities, said “Our Waste and Recycling teams are doing an amazing job in particularly challenging circumstances. We know this is a vital service that is much-needed by all residents and I’m delighted that we are able to continue with this service despite these challenging times. Lots of our residents have left kind messages of appreciation and support for our crews which has been a great boost to their morale. At times such as these, we all need to work together across our communities and play our part, so I’d ask residents to help us to help them during these particularly challenging unprecedented times.”
