Son of Prescot Boxing Legend Will Run Marathon for Cancer Research

The son of a Prescot-born boxer wants to raise £5,000 for Cancer Research UK by running the 2016 London Marathon.

Keith Wallace won Bronze for Great Britain at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, aged just 19, and was Commonwealth Flyweight Champion from February to December 1983.

Of 25 fights in his career, he won 20 – 14 with knockouts – and lost just five. At one time, he was ranked second in his WBC category.

The one-time EBU flyweight contender passed away from cancer on 4 January 2000, at the age of 38. His son Chris was just 10.

Now Chris wants to remember his dad, raise awareness of the disease that killed him, and help fund vital cancer research by running the Virgin Money London Marathon on 24 April 2016.

On his Just Giving page, Chris calls his dad “a true champion” and recalls his saying that “his best achievement in life was being a father to his four kids.”
