Home Bargains Submit Plans for New Prescot Superstore
Merseyside retailer TJ Morris have officially submitted their plans for a new Home Bargains superstore in Prescot.
Earlier this year, the company announced to customers they wouldn’t be renewing the lease on their current premises in Prescot Shopping Centre.
They say the bigger, £5-million Home Bargains store, to include a garden centre, would add 25 jobs to their current Prescot workforce of 45.
Knowsley Council are now considering the planning application, submitted jointly by TJ Morris and landowner Prescot Business Park, Ltd.
It would mean approving a change of use for the land, which is currently designated for housing.
If successful, the store will be built on Manchester Road, south of Tesco and Cables Retail Park, on the land once occupied by the BI.
“We’ve been trading in Prescot since 1989 and we want to bring customers our expanded, up-to-date offer and create a store which will last for another 25 years,” said Joe Morris, of TJ Morris.
“The feedback from Prescot residents has been hugely encouraging and we’re now hoping for a positive decision from the Council.”
He added that that “the limited footfall, poor prominence and constrained first floor store layout” of the Prescot Shopping Centre meant continuing to operate from the mall was commercially unattractive.
