Atherton Street, Prescot, Set for Redevelopment
Atherton Street in Prescot town centre is due to undergo similar development to that of nearby Leyland Street.
Phase One of the development, beginning in April, will see the road surface and pavements redone in natural stone, as well as improvements to parking.
The changes will reflect the historic character of Prescot town centre conservation area, complementing features such as the facade of Prescot Methodist Church (pictured), which has dominated Atherton Street since the early 20th century.
Knowsley Council originally planned to redesign the pedestrianised area around the old oak tree, where the road meets with Eccleston Street, but they could not secure funding.
If finances become available, Phase Two will widen the scope of the project to include the pedestrianised area.
The work is expected to last for approximately three months, from April to July 2016.
