New Prescot Police & Fire Station Now Open

After a 12-month construction project, Prescot Community Fire & Police Station has opened at the junction of Manchester Road and Cables Way.

The purpose-built facility replaces the former Prescot Police Station on Derby Street and both Whiston and Huyton Fire Stations, on Delph Lane and Huyton Lane, respectively. The two-acre site is roughly the same distance from each former fire station.

It is the first time since 1946 that Prescot itself has had a fire station.

The new build has three fire engine bays and a drill tower that can be used to simulate and practise different types of roof rescue. Other facilities include a kitchen, dining room and gym, as well as two rooms available free of charge to community groups.

Hundreds of bushes and small trees were planted and a number of bird boxes put up to safeguard on-site wildlife.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Authority, Merseyside Police, the Police and Crime Commissioner, and Knowsley MBC worked together to bring the joint station to fruition.

Merseyside Police & Crime Commissioner Jane Kennedy said the shared premises were “a great example of our shared commitment to working together to provide the best possible service to people on Merseyside. Not only will this centre reduce costs and increase efficiency, it will also enable officers and firefighters to work in closer partnership in facilities which are modern and fit for purpose.”
